Strategic Management Internal Analysis and SWOT

Toyota Motor Corporation, the world leading car maker, has not been performing well over the recent past as it has been recalling some of its cars because of technical problems. This has been the company’s first car recall in 59 years and it led to an annual net loss (Takahashi, 2010).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Strategic Management: Internal Analysis and SWOT specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, the car maker was reported to be on the verge of making a 48% profit growth estimated at 310 billion yen (the equivalent of $3.32 billion) by March 2011 (Takahashi, 2010). This is a major breakthrough despite the fact that company had made losses in 2009 fiscal year. The implication is that even after recalling 8.5 million cars, this would not deter it recovery process. The paper explores the Toyota’s SWOT analysis basically on it weaknesses and strengths and expounding how it has been able to cap italize them in meeting the threats and taking in the opportunities for competitive advantages. It also analyses whether the weaknesses identified will impede its recovery process. Based on the 2009 annual report following strengths and weaknesses have been identified. The company has a well established marketing mix that incorporates the different marketing concepts like segmentation, targeting and positioning. This has made it reach the different customers from different segmented markets (Ichimaru, 2009). For instance, the automotive operations are the major business segment which makes it a global competitor. Also, it has segmented and positioned itself in different geographical markets over some of its competitors giving it a competitive advantage. Some of the differentiated markers are the emerging market like Asia, South and Central America, and China. The company has diversified its products range which is aimed at targeting different customers depending on social class, geo graphical location, income and status quo among other factors.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? For instance, the company introduced Toyota Prius a hybrid that meets the current expectations of its customers. On the other hand, there are weaknesses that have may be an impediment to the recovery growth of the company. Toyota main markets have been the U.S and Japan. Dependence on the single markets has seen the company face the financial markets crisis and fluctuating prices that resulted to loss in 2009 fiscal year (Ichimaru, 2009). This coupled by the highly fluctuating interest rates and currency, have left adverse effects on the Toyota daily operations. For Toyota to retain its operational efficiency, it has to rely on mass production (Marketing Teacher Ltd, 2011). When a down turn is experienced in the world market, the company may be exposed to over capacity. Contrary, when an upturn is experienced in the world market, the company faces the potential sales because of under capacity (Marketing Teacher Ltd, 2011) because to accommodate either scenario takes time. To remain relevant in the market, the company has to capitalize on the potential strengths to deal with the threats by taking advantage of the opportunities conveyed. The different segmented markets especially the emerging markets like China and Asia will help in retaining market share and lead to market expansion. The different markets it operates from have different exchange rates and interest rates, so the investments in emerging markets have the capacity of enabling the market enjoy different market responses. China was not badly affected by the financial fluctuations, thus Toyota enjoyed hig h sales during this period in china.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Strategic Management: Internal Analysis and SWOT specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Different segmentation, positioning, and targeting has made it possible for the company produce vehicles that meet the changing trends in preferences and test. For instance, the company launched a hybrid car in 2009 (Ichimaru, 2009) as well as Toyota Lexus hybrid that meets the expectation of the people (Takahashi, 2010). Therefore, market diversification has made it possible for the company to utilize the opportunities like producing hybrid cars for different people. With focused targets, the company has been able to utilize this strength in manufacturing vehicles that target the urban youth like convertibles which represent a particular segment of the youth (Marketing Teacher Ltd, 2011). Not all the weaknesses will hinder the recovery efforts of the company. The company has continued to invest in emerging markets like Asia and China (Ichimaru, 2009), which during the financial market economies and downturn were not significantly affected. This has boosted its sales as they have become huge consumers of Toyota Motors Corporation differentiated products. Being a mass producer of vehicles is a weakness that has the capacity of ruining the company as it exposes it to competitive threats. For instance, the company has been recalling cars since 2003 (Ichimaru, 2009). The latest car recalls have reduced the customers confidence although the company has set have a quality management to oversee the production of quality vehicles (Takahashi, 2010). This may hinder its efforts of recovering quickly if not addressed to. Although Toyota has been facing some operational issues related to quality, it is still doing well. The recalling of vehicles and loss made in 2009 did not deter its recovery process as it increased its growth by 48%. The identified st rengths are the ability to use different marketing mix and concepts in expanding and maintaining its customers. It has also ensured that it produces different varieties that satisfy the needs of different customers.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Lord Alfred Tennyson Essays

Lord Alfred Tennyson Essays Lord Alfred Tennyson Paper Lord Alfred Tennyson Paper Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson I am a part of all that I have met; Yet all experience is an arch wherethro Gleams that untravelld world, whose margin fades For ever and for ever when I move. How dull it is to pause, to make an end, To rust unburnishd, not to shine in use! As tho to breathe were life. Life piled on life Were all too little, and of one to me Little remains: but every hour is saved From that eternal silence Ulysses is a poem by Lord Alfred Tennyson which was written after Tennyson learned about his friends death, and published in Poems in 1842. The given poem and the ten lines presented above are a good example of how form and certain concepts the author uses help him to reflect the meaning of the work and make it clear and easy-understandable. These ten lines speak about living life as fully as possibly and point out the connection of a man with everything and everyone he has ever seen or met. Experience gained during the long life is compared to an arch through which one sees a lot of places unseen and undiscovered yet the more one sees and experiences, the sharper he understands that there is still much more to see and live through. As a whole, the character of Ulysses is used to symbolize the people of the Victorian age. Ulysses got educated through his adventures which also disillusioned him, and can be compared to the Victorian people who got suddenly educated through science but it also made them spiritually empty and hopeless. The message which the figure of Ulysses is expressing is that one should keep on dreaming of greater knowledge and seeking for journey and adventure even if they can be found in death. In the ten lines being analyzed it is obviously seen that the hero remains unfulfilled. And these lines show how Ulysses desire for more experience and adventures is like an endless journey that has no end and there is no hope to fulfil the desire to come to the end. The poet uses allegory and metaphors to underline that living a dull and pointless life is not worth living, but bright, adventurous, and full of challenges and impressions life is what one with no fear should be looking for. A dramatic monologue is the poems structure and enjambment is used to reflect the meaning of the piece. Though in the whole poem the tone is complex because it expresses both past and present life of the main hero, in these ten lines it is encouraging, edifying and, at the same time, confident and even insisting. In this work Tennyson uses one of the most common metrical forms in English literature iambic pentameter, i. e. an unstressed syllable is followed by a stressed one. Iambic pentameter is commonly used in blank verse as well as Tennyson uses it. Hence, the given lines have a regular meter but no rhyme, though they sound rather regular and musical. The blank verse being used is flexible, with both declamatory style and colloquial rhythms employed in it. The poet also uses a lot of active verbs and this concept directs the reader to accept and understand Ulysses reasoning and decision. In general due to their mood and literary peculiarities have been mentioned the given lines create both hopeless and optimistic mood at the same time: they are inconsistent. Ulysses knows his journey will have no end, but still is sure that wrong and pointless would be to stop and stay. It is an allegory about mortality. Bibliography Thomson, Alastair. Adjectives and Adverbs Guide

Adjectives and Adverbs Guide Adjectives and Adverbs Guide Adjectives and Adverbs Guide By Mark Nichol This post discusses two categories of parts and speech key to helping writers describe things and actions. Adjectives An adjective is a word or a combination of two or more words that modify or provide additional information about a noun. There are three general uses of adjectives: attributive, predicate, and nominal. An attributive adjective generally precedes the noun it modifies, as with broken in â€Å"a broken heart.† (One type of attributive adjective is a noun adjunct, a noun that functions as an adjective when it modifies another noun, as with kitchen in â€Å"kitchen counter.†) However, the noun may precede the adjective in the case of a postpositive adjective (also called a postnominal adjective), which occurs when the adjective is itself modified by an adverbial phrase, as in â€Å"a heart broken for the last time† and in phrases borrowed from other languages (such as â€Å"heir apparent†) and archaic or poetic usage (as in â€Å"forest primeval†). A predicate adjective is connected to a preceding noun by a linking verb, as with curious in â€Å"children are curious,† and a nominal adjective is one that functions as a noun substitute. This may occur in reference to a collective group when the noun is implied, as in â€Å"the wealthy,† or in the case of a superlative such as â€Å"the biggest,† or when a noun is elided rather than repeated (â€Å"I’ll wear the red shirt, and you wear the green†). Determiners are a category of words formerly considered by linguists as adjectives but now classified as a distinct part of speech, though dictionaries still identify them as a type of adjective. Examples of determiners that resemble adjectives in use include demonstrative determiners such as this and that, distributive determiners such as each and any, interrogative determiners such as what and which, possessive determiners such as my and their, quantifying determiners such as few and many, and numbers. Phrasal adjectives, modifying phrases that precede or follow a noun, are usually hyphenated, when they precede the noun, to emphasize their combination, as in â€Å"hardest-working employee,† but not when they follow (â€Å"the employee who is the hardest working†). Exceptions are made for permanent phrasal adjectives (such as cost-effective) that appear in the dictionary; these retain hyphenation after a noun. (Also, adjectival compounds beginning with self, such as self-respecting, are always hyphenated.) Likewise, omit hyphens in standing phrasal adjectives such as â€Å"post office† that are not hyphenated in their dictionary entries (post office employee). A source of hyphenation error is when a noun phrase that often appears as a phrasal adjective, such as â€Å"long term,† is hyphenated. Hyphenation is correct in a phrasal adjective before a noun (â€Å"a long-term plan†), but such a term is open not only after a noun (â€Å"a plan that is long term†) but also in isolation as a noun phrase (â€Å"in the long term†). Also, take care with comparative and superlative adjectives used in phrases such as â€Å"more punitive measures.† When â€Å"more punitive† is not hyphenated, more means â€Å"additional.† However, when a hyphen is employed, the phrase means â€Å"punitive to a greater degree.† Phrasal adjectives may include more than two words, as in â€Å"happy-go-lucky attitude,† but strings of more than three words are inadvisable, especially when they consist of a train of nouns employed as adjectives, such as in â€Å"data leakage prevention strategy.† Technically, the first three words, which together modify strategy, should be hyphenated (â€Å"data-leakage-prevention strategy†) to aid in reader comprehension (otherwise, the reader may not recognize the intended relationship until the last word is reached and may have to backtrack to understand the phrase), but such usage is cumbersome; it is often better to rephrase the term (for example, â€Å"strategy to prevent data leakage†). Adverbs An adverb is a word that modifies a verb or another part of speech to describe what, when, where, why, or how an action occurs; adverbial phrases and adverbial clauses also perform this function. The term adverb most familiarly applies to words ending in -ly that without the suffix serve as adjectives, such as lively, as in â€Å"They watched the lively performance.† However, many adverbs lack the suffix, as when they refer to location (for example, up or there), time (soon or today), frequency (seldom or daily), and so on. In addition, adverbs may be flat, meaning that they are root forms of -ly adverbs. These often appear on their own in informal contexts (as with quick in â€Å"Run quick to the store†) but may also appear in adverbial phrases, as in â€Å"quick-acting compound.† (Note that adverbial phrases are distinguished from phrasal adjectives in that they usually do not include hyphens- hyphenation in such phrases as â€Å"privately held† is erroneous. Those with flat adverbs are an exception.) Adverbs also modify parts of speech other than verbs. For example, in â€Å"quite annoying,† the adverb quite modifies the adjective annoying, and in â€Å"very quietly,† one adverb modifies another. The adverb only may modify a noun (â€Å"She drinks water only†), and adverbs modify prepositional phrases (in â€Å"I was almost up the stairs,† almost modifies not was but â€Å"up the stairs†) and clauses or even entire sentences (as in the case of actually in â€Å"Actually, they are on their way now†). Adverbs that modify an entire sentence rather than a verb or another part of speech are called sentence adverbs. Often, they begin a sentence, as actually does in the example in the previous sentence, or as often does in this sentence you are reading, though they may appear in the midst of a sentence or, as a tag following a comma (or, sometimes, a dash) at the end of a sentence. Many sentence adverbs, such as clearly, fortunately, and regrettably, signal that the sentence represents the writer’s opinion or at least conveys a bias. Strategic Planning in Uncertain and Dynamic Environments Research Paper

Strategic Planning in Uncertain and Dynamic Environments - Research Paper Example This process is called strategic planning and has been proved to result in different outcomes for different organizations, depending on the nature of the organization and the environment in which the organization operates.   Strategic planning is a systematic and documented process that is adapted for making decisions on what key decisions an organization must get right in order to ensure that the organization thrives in the future. The process of strategic planning leads to a strategic plan, which is a set of statements that describe the purpose and ethical conduct of an organization together with the different strategies that have been designed in order to achieve the targets that the organization has set (Pearce II, et al 1987). To achieve the best outcome, an organization should ensure that its strategic planning is effective, and is capable of sustainable strategic decisions. This is important as it might reduce the risk level for the organization, and improve the long-term performance of the organization. Different organizations have utilized the process of strategic planning differently, and have experienced varying results. Today, apart from large corporations, smaller organizations are equally adopting the process of strategic planning. While some organizations have successfully used strategic planning and experienced a positive outcome, other organizations have failed to realize a positive outcome with strategic planning. Therefore, strategic planning in this regard cannot be viewed as an ultimate or absolute effective process for organizational decision making and improved performance.

Kolcaba’s comfort theory would assist in this research by identifying the comfort desires, measures, health seeking patient conduct, comfort, intervening variables and institutional integrity (Peterson & Bredow, 2009). This theory acknowledges that the comfort needs of patients emanate from stressful health care conditions. Therefore, this theory would also guide in designing measures to satisfy the comfort needs (Peterson & Bredow, 2009). This would be achieved through patient factors that influence the discernment of comfort identified by the theory such as the age, attitude, past experience, support system, emotional state and finances. Her Passion for Learning :: College Admissions Essays

Her Passion for Learning It took me eighteen years to realize what an extraordinary influence my mother has been on my life. She' s the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about which artist she would most want to have her portrait painted by (Sargent), the kind of mother who always has time for her four children, and the kind of community leader who has a seat on the board of every major project to assist Washington' s impoverished citizens. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for a new sense of life, love, and spirit. My mother' s enthusiasm for learning is most apparent in travel. I was nine years old when my family visited Greece. Every night for three weeks before the trip, my older brother Peter and I sat with my mother on her bed reading Greek myths and taking notes on the Greek Gods. Despite the fact that we were traveling with fourteen-month-old twins, we managed to be at each ruin when the site opened at sunrise. I vividly remember standing in an empty ampitheatre pretending to be an ancient tragedian, picking out my favorite sculpture in the Acropolis museum, and inserting our family into modified tales of the battle at Troy. Eight years and half a dozen passport stamps later I have come to value what I have learned on these journeys about global history, politics and culture, as well as my family and myself. While I treasure the various worlds my mother has opened to me abroad, my life has been equally transformed by what she has shown me just two miles from my house. As a ten year old, I often accompanied my mother to (name deleted), a local soup kitchen and children' s center. While she attended meetings, I helped with the Summer Program by chasing children around the building and performing magic tricks. Having finally perfected the " floating paintbrush" trick, I began work as a full time volunteer with the five and six year old children last June. It is here that I met Jane Doe, an exceptionally strong girl with a vigor that is contagious.

The relationship between Machbeth and Lady Macbeth

The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth By Myra Civilly Macbeth, the play written by William Shakespeare in 1606, shows us the relationship that exists between the characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and how it creates most of the actions, reactions, moods, feelings and attitudes. Both love each other and that deserves any sacrifice. At the beginning of the play, they are very close and this is shown when he calls her, â€Å"my dearest partner of greatness. † He clearly demonstrates being open with his wife.Afterwards, they seem more and more assistant, each into his/her private world. Although Lady Macbeth shares many personality traits with her husband, such as the pride, she is endowed with unwavering firmness of mind and her aggressiveness and cruelty almost denies her feminine nature. By analyzing her actions throughout the play, we realize her coldness. We can also see her power when she uses her sensuality to convince Macbeth to commit the murder and when she taunts him calling for his love, â€Å"From this time such I account thy love† (Macbeth, Act l, Scene VI', p. 4) and questioning bout his virility (calling him a coward), disregarding the fact that killing the king is unfair and brutal, â€Å"What beast wasn't, then, then, that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man†. (Macbeth, Act l, Scene VI', p. 35) Macbeth seems to be persuaded by all the intense arguments of Lady Macbeth. She could convince him, even if he had no desire to perform the murder. The function of provocation by Lady Macbeth only awakes of Machete's evil side.Despite the fact he s a noble, bold, and brave man, he has a gloomy nature. Macbeth conveys an uncertainty to commit or not the crime and although he has already thought about killing the king, he needs precision and motivation from Lady Macbeth to do it. After the murder, when Macbeth com es back to his bedroom horrified with his hands covered with blood, he meets Lady Macbeth who gets impatiently with Machete's thoughts. When she sees that he had not left the dragger in the scene of the crime, she gets angry and tells him to take them there, but he refuses to do so.She accuses IM of being a coward, and takes the dragger herself, â€Å"Coward! Give me the daggers. Dead and sleeping people can't hurt you any more than pictures can. Only children are afraid of scary pictures† (Macbeth, Act II, Scene II, p. 43). From the moment that Lady Macbeth notices her hands covered with blood, she shows us, for the first time, the feeling of fear. The guilt starts to take account of Lady Machete's mind. However, even after Machete's wife realizes what she did, she continues to give support to her husband because she thinks he getting the throne is the best thing that could append for both.Lady Macbeth tries not to weaken in front of Macbeth, â€Å"Things without all remedy should be without regard. What's done is done† (Macbeth, Act Ill, Scene II, p. 64). She keeps guiding her husband in her weakness. Although Macbeth is also beginning to feel guilty, he is obsessed with the position of king and he has no problem with killing other people. After Lady Macbeth deploys the unscrupulous courage in her husband heart, she loses her power over Macbeth and, as a result, he starts to plan his actions, like murders, without her knowing. Now, we see that he intros Lady Macbeth, which means that he makes decisions by himself. Once crowned, he rises and his wife descends in importance. The secret that Lady Macbeth hides disturbs and unbalances her. Before, she was a calm, controlled, and strong wife, now, her mental state begins to damage. She wakes up in the middle of the night, sleep walking and speaking aloud, Out, damned spot! Out, I say! -?One, two. Why, then, ‘its time to do ‘t. Hell is murky! -?Fie, my lord, flee! A soldier and afeard? Wha t need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? ?Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him. (Macbeth, Act V, Scene l, p. 114) Lady Macbeth and her husband separate of each one not only physically – she gets mad and he doesn't care about her anymore, because he is obsessed with his enemies. Arising from this, unable to bear the madness, she commits suicide. Macbeth reacts with indifference to Lady Machete's death saying, She should have died hereafter. There would have been a time for such a word. Tomorrow, tomorrow, and tomorrow. Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the cast syllable of recorded time. And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. (Macbeth, Act V, Scene V, p. 126) This lack of emotion means that his feelings about his wife were over. Thus, we can see how their relationship has changed throughout the play and how he has changed, in contrast to his guilt when he killed the king Duncan. Now, Macbeth is too eager to enable his conscience to stop him from doing cruel things. However, near the end of the story, he seems to be relieved to know that the English army was coming and it means that he would return to the battlefield, where he starts to win, nevertheless, he loses the battle dying. We can conclude that the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth has always been about complicity and fidelity despite this mutual union deteriorates in the final moments of the story.Macbeth needed Lady Machete's mental strength while for Lady Macbeth her husband's hysterical force was indispensable to commit the barbaric act. This represents a balance between the characters; one completes the other and vice versa. They are partners in crime, in greed, in corr uption, in madness and in their allocations, which symbolizes an irony of a â€Å"wonderful† union. References http://www. Sparseness.
